At Climate Hearth, we currently offer three main branches of programming, all of which work
towards our goal of fostering collective emotional resilience in the face of the climate crisis.

Eco-Anxiety Peer Support Groups

Free, regular support groups open to anyone who is struggling with emotions related to climate change. Currently offered in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal and Kchi nikitawtegw/Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Our approach draws inspiration from Shake Up the Establishment’s 3Rs Framework: Rest, Recovery, Resistance. Based on a traditional environmental slogan (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), it aims to offer community organizers and concerned citizens a structure for processing emotions about climate change and cultivating sustainable involvement in the movement for climate justice.

With the 3Rs in mind, our Support Groups have three aims:

Create community spaces for processing

A relaxed, accessible space where people who are overwhelmed, anxious, angry, or grief-filled about the climate crisis can gather — something which our participants often share they struggle to find in their daily lives and relationships.

Provide supportive tools for coping

Bring in research and lived experience-backed resources from therapy and activism to help participants add more care tools to their toolkit. Examples include workshops from art and drama therapists, worksheets on self- and community-care, and more.

Co-design pathways to action

We help our participants move through anxiety, which creates mental space for cultivating a personally-sustainable relationship to climate action. Through invited talks from activists, mixer events with climate organizations, brainstorming exercises using tools like the Climate Venn, and group volunteering opportunities, we allow participants to truly reflect on the unique skills, passions, and abilities they bring to the movement for climate justice — and then apply them.

IMMERSIONs

Our IMMERSION events include ad-hoc workshops.

Workshops and multi-day events are dedicated to diving deeper into climate emotions, how to address them, and how to use our unique skills to tackle the climate crisis.
